Okay so I got a new chin, and he is very hyper then very lazy.

Today he was REALLY HYPER and then went in his wheel and layed down. Is he okay? Is he just exhausted?

I checked for all illnesses/ he is soooo healthy.

  1. He's just tired!! My chin is 10 next year and she constantly does this, spending 2 hours running like a crazy thing and 10 hours sleeping, it's natural chin behaviour. You'll get used to his spells soon, then you can really appreciate your cute little friend.

  2. If he is new especially, he is still adjusting to everything. And if he is young, he will behave childish and have random spurts of activity.

You need to be letting him out for around an hour daily so he can get some exercise out of the cage. If he is locked in there all day, he will be doing nothing and will have to burn off his energy in some way.

And please consider getting him a friend. Chinchillas are social animals. It is not natural for them to live alone. The easiest way to entice playfulness and activity is by getting him a friend.
