Question:

Chinchillas and asthmatics?

I want chinchilla so much and I thought it all out. I would keep him in the garage and everthing. but then I remembered my brother had asthma. Can I keep a chinchilla with an ashmatic? I wanted to know if this will set him off or what with the dust bathes and all that fur. HELP!!!

  1. My friend who has asthma has 2 chinchillas and she does fine.

    Also the garage isn't a good place for a chinchilla...you should keep it inside. Preferably in a place where if he's mainly yours, he'll get to see you his main owner often but not have to deal with people he doesn't know so well.


  2. Most people that I know and including myself have allergies and/or respiratory problems that own chinchilla's. I just wear a mask when the chins are dusting or I'm distributing hay and don't take it off until I leave the room they are in. It made a huge difference in my being able to be around them, you can also use an air purifier in the room to help keep the dust out of the air.
