Question:

Chinchillas injured leg?

I have a chinchilla that isn't using his front paw very much. He can still move it and doesn't seem to be in pain at all. He is still very active and eating and drinking like nothing is wrong. When he hops he favors his healthy leg. When he sits he keeps the injured leg tucked close to his body. I called my normal vet but he didnt have any experience with chinchillas.

Could it be dislocated?

Thanks.

  1. My local vet has a vet in theoffice that does see chinchillas, I would call around and see if you can find one that does. I am guessing it would be an office call 40.00 , maybe an xray50.00 and if it needs to be casted it would be more. Maybe 60.00 more, but I am not certain. But yes it sounds as if it is broke. I would not let it go because it could possible not be getting blood supply and then that would alter kill him.

  2. It probably is thats what happened to mine.

  3. The only way you can tell the full extent is by having a vet check done.

It could be nothing but it could be serious, Chinchillas are very good at hiding pain as they are prey animals. Ask your  normal vet for a referal to an exotic vet or start calling to find one. It never hurts to have a backup vet.
