Chinese Basketball Association’s new rules prevent league players to play in China: NBA Update
The National Basketball Association (NBA) has locked its players over labour dispute with the Players Association while no progress has been made to resolve this serious issue. This lockout has forced many league players to play overseas to stay active physically and financially. Many players have already made commitments with several international basketball clubs, but still there are so many other young players who are still searching good contracts for their future. Turkey, Israel and China are the biggest market outside United States of America (USA) where these players can go and resume their playing activities.
But now Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) has some bitter plans for these passionate players who wanted to play in Chinese basketball league. The Chinese basketball authorities are trying to implement two new rules which will prevent the NBA players’ influx into the Chinese basketball. Firstly they have plans to include a clause in their current memorandum which would barred their teams to sign one extra NBA players into their roster and secondly they would not allow any league player to go back to the NBA whenever the lockout ends in the league.
An anonymous source within the basketball league told a renowned sports channel which states, “The CBA isn’t the NBA’s backyard, If we didn’t make a rule about players playing here temporarily, then they’d all just leave in the middle of the season. That would affect our season greatly.”
On the other hand no Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) official has confirmed this news. Their league has yet to finalize this decision when their management officials will meet in mid August. Ye Xiangyu, GM of Zhejiang Guangsha has also told the media and stated with little confidence. He said, “I think trying to attract superstar players to the league isn’t a good thing, once they leave, there won’t be any players left on the market.That would affect a team across all aspects.”
Last month, basketball’s international governing body (FIBA) made some deliberate efforts and introduced some healthy measures to create an easy way forward to all the league players to join European leagues. The International Basketball Association allowed all the league players to come and play in their leagues during the lockout in the NBA. The FIBA’s ruling in favor of all the league players was appreciated by many and provoked many players to try to seek contract form international clubs. Apart from the Chinese Basketball’s two new rules on the NBA players, there are still very valuable players who are planning to go and play for Chinese basketball in this fall. These two new rules not only harsh regulations on NBA players but these rules will also hurt the Chinese basketball league it-self.
