The novel chinese cinderella was about the trials and problems of a young girl who struggled to succeed in a cold world.

Do you agree or do you think her hardships were exaggerated and why ?

  1. I don't think that her hardships were exaggerated at all. I mean they may sound a little harsh, but maybe they were so harsh that she remembers them until this very day.

    Chinese Cinderella was set in the late 30s to mid 40s, the one-child policy was introduced in 1978 (applied in 79).
    Adeline wasn't treated so terribly because she was a female, it was because some of her family members blamed her for her mother's death.
    Obviously Adeline (author) wouldn't be able to remember everything that she was told word-for-word, so some of it would be made up. But this in no way means that the story is exaggerated...
