Chinese Dwarf Hamsters

Question

I am going to get two Chinese Dwarf Hamsters but I'm not sure which gender of Chinese Dwarfs are better? My sister is mildly allergic to hamsters and I've heard that the males have more allergy problems? I've also heard that the males are usually more aggressive and quick? Is that true?

On the other hand I've heard that the females and slower and more gentle, and they have less allergy problems. But if they're pregnant they get frantic.

Both male and female chinese dwarfs are very gentle. Now if you want to prevent fighting then get both females. Males with fight if in a cage together. Now if you don't care about th.m having babies then get a male && a female

Females are the best bet because they smell less and everything you said is true! Just keep 'em away from males and they'll be calm.

Do you have two cages? When they mature, Chinese Dwarf hamsters become territorial and will fight with a cagemate. They are solitary animals. They can seriously injure or kill each other. You should either get one, or make sure to get two cages for them.

I've never had females, but I know that I prefer Chinese Dwarf hamsters to the other breeds. They are all quite gentle compared to other hamsters. I've never read or heard anything about males causing more allergies. Was the source reliable?

I think that both genders can be sweet pets when handled often, and while each gender may have certain traits they lean toward, there are always exceptions. I have known males to be absolute sweethearts, just as females are. I've also known some brats of both genders!! Although what you've learned are fairly accurate generalizations. I would choose based on the individual hamsters you meet when you go to get them. Handle and observe them all and see which personality suits you best.
