Question:

Chinese Gymnastics Age Controversy?

by  |  earlier

Are other countries complaining about the age controversies surrounding Chinese gymnastics or is it just Americans? The reason I ask is that people on another blog say that the Americans have made this age thing up since we are losing. I find it hard to believe that we are the only ones that have a problem with it. Can anyone site me an article or website where other countries are questioning this as well?

  1. I have always known that we Americans have become a country of whiners and crybabies over the last 25 years, but now we are doing it in front of the whole world.

  2. Well other countries are complaining but they dont care that much.  They're aren't many other countries who are good at the olympics anyways

  3. Straight from China

    http://www.chinapost.com.tw/sports/olymp...

    From Canada:

    http://www.sportsnet.ca/olympics/2008/07...

    from the International Gymnastics Mag

    http://www.intlgymnast.com/olympics/478....

However /since/ the government runs the sports authority it makes it fishy even more... :/

ADD: and we can take the losing as long as we lost within the bounds of the rules... :/

  4. Well a Chinese reporter was the first to break the story last November

    I think it's the media

I think the US team took the Olympic Committee statement

Like Nastia did last night when she gave a better routine, got the same score and came in 2nd.  They did not fill anything to change it, she took it

I think it's a press thing, and they make it a big deal

But a Chinese reporter started that last year, and last week he restated that one of the chinese is 13

At least one Chinese reporter thinks his country should play by the rules

  5. lets see, when liu xiang won 110m hurdle back in 2004, americans said he used steroids, when americans won women team gymnastic in 2007 championship, they didnt give a d**n about their opponents age, when they lost in 2008, age is suddenly an issue. when usain bolt won 100m with ease, they say he uses steroid, when jamaican women won 1 2 3 in 100m, they say there was a false start. when chinese won gold in gymnastic, they say the judges favoured the chinese, when romanian won gymnastic, they say the judges favoured romanian, when north korean won gymnastic, they say the judges favoured north korean. how much lower will the americans go,

  6. You know, there are a lot of things America made up about China because it's the most powerful communist country now and one of the most powerful country on Earth. For example, like the problem in Tibet, the pollution, accusation against the Chinese people. So I wouldn't be surprised if we Americans are still attacking them through our biased media. No one seems to have any discrepancy about the Chinese age, except for Americans. Pretty weird, huh? I think we're making such a huge deal about the age controversy because we're losing to them.

  7. it hasn't been much of a secret that china has put a lot into making this the perfect olympics.  coaching citizens on how to behave around foreigners, quieting the tibet controversy, holing up cab drivers that don't have the right look...

there is a controversy every year about something, and its rarely just one country's problem.

  8. idk

  9. Just American made this up, because they lose to Chinese and they can't take it as a loser.  They thought they can beat everyone in the world, but it turns out that they just a loser.

  10. We did not 'make it up because we were losing'.  In fact, China's own government run news agency reported one of the girls as being 13 just last year.

So since the gov't runs the news...they're either lying or idiots.  Either way, not a great thing to be.

    British article:

  12. only you make big deal on things like that.....or fireworks, lipsynching, usain bolt showboating, etc. you are very good in nitpicking the worst of others.

Jacacaca: About the newspaper report....haha....whoever made that up could not provide an evidence coz they said its removed already. Liars.

  13. Well, IOC had confirmed the gymnasts age as within the limits, and yes, the Americans cannot take losing - Americans show to the whole world that they are a nation of whiners and criers.

Now that USA is losing badly (yes, very badly), they try to find excuses and more excuses to cover up for losing.

  14. The age controversy has already been floating around long before the start of the Olympics. It's people who never followed the news that thinks the US is 'making this up' just because the US lost. It doesn't matter who wins or lost. There are rules. We might as well scrap them if they are not going to be followed.

  15. Apparently russia cares too. www.trud.bg If you can read russian, you can check out a few of their articles. Google doesn't translate it. You get an error page, if you do.

Also, china has admitted to doing this before. The most famous case is in Sydney, but there have been a few others where everyone disputed it. If they didn't lie about their age here, they lied about it for some other competititions because their birthdays change from like every competition.

  16. the only mention of it over here in Aus was an article on Yahoo that basically just quotes He Kexin whom they state was "being peppered with questions about her age" and basically made it sound like Journalists that think He is a child have taken to harassing the poor girl to try and prove it.

Other than that, there is one picture in a tongue in cheek blog post that has the "Fake Olympics" and have He with "Fake 16yo" .. Although, that too is having a go at journalists.

So, thats a No from Australia.
