Are there any distinctive differences between the traditional architecture of the three cultures?

Is it true that Japanese ones are usually the least colorful? Most of them that I've seen are natural wood colored. Korean and Chinese ones are less distinctive between each other it seems. Chinese ones seem to be grander and uses a lot more red and yellow. Korean ones are generally more colorful?
