Chinese Olympic Delegation respects penalty decision to shuttlers for violating Olympic principles
The Chinese Olympic Commission showed a great respect to the decision of Badminton World Federation in which they punished eight female athletes including two top shuttlers from China for throwing out their matches which is completely against the spirit
of the game.
On Tuesday, July 31, four Women’s Doubles pairs deliberately showed a very poor performance in order to lose their group matches for having easy opponents at the knockout stage.
Among the eight shuttlers who were disqualified are the World Number One Yu Yang – Wang Xiaoli from China, Kim Min Jung – Ha Jung Eun and Kim Ha Na – Jung Kyung Eun from Korea and Greysia Polii – Meiliana Jauhari of Indonesia.
All these players have been punished for damaging the spirit of sport and doing against the oath they took before participating in Olympics.
The spectators at Wembley Arena also jeered on the players for showing a dirty play and damaging their reputation and also the spirit of the game.
They disapproved the poor showing of Women’s Doubles pairs who kept on delivering bad performance in order to get benefit at the knockout stage by having lower ranked opponents.
The Olympic delegation of China gave respect to this decision and they felt saddened on such a disapproving thing that brings harm to the spirit of games.
The statement of delegation was, “The actions of Yu Yang and Wang Xiaoli on the court have violated Olympic principles and the spirit of fair athletic competition. The Chinese Sports Delegation feels saddened.”
China’s head coach Li Yongbo accepted the responsibility of this bad incident and took the blame on himself.
He stated, “As the head coach, I owe the fans and the Chinese an apology. Chinese players failed to demonstrate their fighting spirit of the national team. It's me to blame.”
However, according to numerous opinions from around the world indicated that this disapproving incident was completely devastating for the promotion of badminton.
A few critics went to the limit by saying that this incident can also throw badminton out of Olympic Games which will be a deathly blow to this game which is surviving at international level because of an Olympic sport.
