Chinese Pan Yan Hong extends her lead in the second round of the Sanya Ladies Open
Chinese rising player Pan Yan Hong clinched the second round lead at the latest episode of the Ladies European Tour (LET), the Sanya Ladies Open at the Yalong Bay Golf Club in Hainan, China. She scored a three-under, 69 in the second round of the event,
leading the event in both opening rounds.
The 28-year-old second year professional from Hebei near Beijing, pulled in four birdies and dropped just one shot in her 18-hole stretch, pushing for her first LET title victory on her home ground. The event is tightly contested among a
vast entourage of international players including Thailand’s 19-year-old Patcharajutar Kongkraphan, who finished for an outright second, carding second round score of three-under, 69. She also carded four birdies and dropped just one shot on the second day.
Three players are now contending for the third slot including Rachel Bell of England, Scotland’s Vikki Laing and Aussie Frances Bondad. Bell was one of the top scorers of the day, pulling in seven glorious birdies and dropping two shots while switching over
the back and front nine. She scored five-under, 67 on the second day to finish with an aggregate of six-under, 138.
“We were lucky because we teed off quite early this morning so we had nice conditions. It was nice to play,” said Bell. “I played quite well yesterday and everyone in our group played well yesterday. We all holed a lot of putts, which gives you a bit of
confidence on the greens.”
Bell is poised at 117th on the Henderson Money List and has appeared in 14 events in the current season.
“My season hasn’t been as good as I would have liked but sometimes you can be playing well and the results don’t show it. Hopefully the results will come this week.” she added.
Another group of six players is in contention for the sixth spot through the halfway mark of the event, scoring five-under, 139 on the aggregate. The players include Thailand’s Nontaya Srisawang, Australian Stacey Keating, Spaniard Tania Elosegui, Chinese
Lin Xiyu, South African Ashleigh Simon, and American Christine Song.
Halfway cut was placed at three-over, where many players failed to proceed to the third round of the event.
