Chinese Taipei Open GP Gold 2012: Tien Minh Nguyen trounces Wong Wing Ki in quarter-final contest
Tien Minh Nguyen, who is the most decorated shuttler in Vietnam, showed his supremacy on court as he played with tremendous precision in Men’s Singles quarter-final contest and overpowered Hong Kong’s Wong Wing Ki at the Chinese Taipei Open GP Gold 2012
on Friday, October 5, in Chinese Taipei.
The World Number 13 Tien Minh, who has been positioned at number 2 in Men’s Singles seeding in the tournament, showed his tremendous craft without sparing any mercy to his rival and won the match in a completely controlled and convincing fashion.
Second seeded Tien Minh played with precision in his fight against Wing Ki and remained successful in securing his place in the semi-final as he easily ended up the quarter-final contest in straight games with a decent margin in just 28 minutes.
On the contrary, the World Number 22 Wing Ki could not prove his worth in the arena as he failed to match the aggression of his Vietnamese opponent and eventually went down without proving his mettle in the arena.
Tien Minh has been working really hard to find a good rhythm in the last few months but he failed to manage it. However, he finally got a got flow in the Chinese Taipei open by reaching into the top-four stage.
In the quarter-final clash, Tien Minh was in great form as he played with impressive ease and manipulated all loopholes of his rival by keeping the pace of rallies at the maximum level.
Until the one-minute break in the opening game, Tien Minh did not let his challenger to take control of the game.
After the break, Tien Minh played positive badminton and managed a reasonable lead. He kept the distance all the way to take the opening set with a 21-17 score on the board.
In the second set, Tien Minh continued playing positive and smart badminton without sparing any chance for Wing Ki to put up strong resistance. He was leading the game until the end of opening half.
After the mid-game interval, the higher ranked Vietnamese shuttler remained in commanding position and he easily wrapped up the second set with a 21-17 score on the board.
Tien Minh won this quarter-final contest against Wing Ki in a striking fashion by a reasonable difference of 21-17 and 21-17.
