Chinese Taipei Open GP Gold: Hu Yun stamps his mark over Robin Gonansa in Men’s Singles round-of-16
Hong Kong’s spirited player Hu Yun showed his elevated craft and easily stormed into Men’s Singles quarter-final after giving a severe lesson to Singapore’s Robin Gonansa in round-of-16 showdown at the Yonex Chinese Taipei Open GP Gold 2012 on Thursday,
October 4, in Chinese Taipei.
The fifth seeded Yun, who has been impressive in last month’s Japan Open, continued his roller-coaster performance in Taipei Open as well and easily tamed Gonansa by working for just 27 minutes on court.
World Number 15 Yun played with impressive precision and he did not spare even a slight chance for his Singaporean opponent to put up strong resistance and eventually won the match in two sets with a comfortable difference on the board.
The un-seeded Gonansa, on the other hand, could not live up to the expectations and remained struggling throughout the battle. He failed to create any trouble for his fifth seeded rival and lost to him without proving his mettle.
In the first game, both players showed their impressive skills and entertained the local crowd by playing controlled and fast badminton.
However, Yun started to dictate the pace by increasing his speed and managed to create an impressive lead of 11-7 until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Yun continued playing inspiring badminton without dropping down his speed at any stage. He maintained his dominating position all the way to finish off the opening set with a 21-13 score on the board.
In the following set, Gonansa also played with precision and remained close to his rival but failed to take any lead as Yun played controlled badminton and managed to set up a small lead of 11-9.
After the one-minute break, Yun extended his lead by playing controlled badminton and he did not let his opponent to stay close in the concluding points.
Yun was in staggering form in the ending rallies of second game and he bagged the set with a convincing margin of 21-16.
The incredible Yun secured his place at the top-eight stage by beating Gonansa in straight games with a dominating 21-13 and 21-16 score on the board.
