Chinese Taipei Open GP Gold: Tien Minh Nguyen tames Wei Feng Chong to surge into Men’s Singles final
Vietnam’s Tien Minh Nguyen proved his superiority in the arena as he reached into Men’s Singles final after taming Malaysia’s Wei Feng Chong in semi-final showdown at the Chinese Taipei Open GP Gold 2012 on Saturday, October 6, in Chinese Taipei.
The World Number 13 Tien Minh, who is the second seeded player in the main draw of the event, was on a completely different level as he unleashed his tremendous skills and easily overpowered his Malaysian opponent by taking just 35 minutes on court.
Tien Minh was in remarkable position as he employed all of his impressive shots in all areas of the court and maintained pressure on his opponent all the way to finish off the match in straight sets with a comfortable margin.
In the meanwhile, the lower ranked Wei Feng could not produce his best form on court as he remained struggling to take the bird early. He also failed to destroy the defence of Tien Minh and lost to him without winning any game.
In the first set, both men put up superb show by playing attacking badminton and remained close until the score reached at 6-6.
Tien Minh geared up his speed at this stage and played a few impressive shots which helped him to set up an 11-7 lead until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, Tien Minh stayed in command as he did not let his rival to take charge of rallies at any stage and ultimately ended up the first set with a dominating margin of 21-8.
In the second game, the left-handed Wei Feng also put up superb show of aggressive badminton and he did not let his higher ranked opponent to set up even a slight lead until the end of opening half.
After the break, Malaysian shuttler was leading the game with a 17-13 margin when Tien Minh controlled the affairs on court and came from behind to snatch the set with a 21-19 score on the board.
Tien Minh ousted Wei Feng in this straight-set semi-final clash in just 35 minutes with a convincing difference of 21-8 and 21-19.
