Chinese Taipei Open GP Gold: Wei Feng Chong beats Yu Hsien Lin in an epic round-of-16 match
Malaysia’s spirited player Wei Feng Chong struggled really hard to reserve his place in Men’s Singles quarter-final as he remained lucky in defeating his local challenger Yu Hsien Lin in round-of-16 showdown at Chinese Taipei Open GP Gold 2012 in Chinese
Taipei, on Thursday, October 4.
The lofty Wei Feng, who is World Number 30 at the moment, had to put in extra effort on court and he managed to get rid of his Taipei rival in hard fought three games by taking 69 minutes on court.
Wei Feng was impressive in the first set but failed to put up strong show in the second set and lost it with a tight margin. In the deciding set, Wei Feng employed all of his reserves and managed to win this epic battle with a narrow margin on the board.
The un-seeded Yu Hsien, on the contrary, showed a strong character on court by playing positive and aggressive badminton but remained unlucky in the ending points of final set and lost the contest with a respectable total on score board.
In the starting game, Wei Feng was in command as he played with tremendous speed and control in his shots and managed to grab the game with a comfortable 21-16 score on the board.
The Malaysian shuttler played with precision in opening half of second game and managed an impressive 11-7 lead until the break.
After the mid-game interval, Yu Hsien unleashed his powerful strokes and started to narrow the gap. He played with precision and made the score equal at 18-18.
Wei Feng lost his control at this stage and eventually the game slipped away from his hands with a 20-22 score on the board.
In the deciding set, both shuttlers played positively and remained close in opening half but it was a shuffling of position in the following half when both shuttlers managed a reasonable lead but none of them could maintain it.
However, it was Wei Feng who kept the pace of rallies fast by executing parallel shots and managed to end up the set with a dramatic score of 21-19.
Wei Feng emerged as the winner in this spectacular contest that ended up in three games with a close 21-16, 20-22 and 21-19 score on the board.
