Chinese Taipei Open: Kwan Yi Mong thrashes Chi Ya Cheng to enter into Women’s Singles main round
Kwan Yi Mong of Hong Kong booked her place in the Women’s Singles main round after taming Chi Ya Cheng of Chinese Taipei in the qualifying round of the 2011 Chinese Taipei Open, on Tuesday, September 6, at Sinjhuang City, in Chinese Taipei.
The Hong Kong shuttler showed no mercy to Ya Cheng and defeated her in impressive fashion. Yi Mong took 37 minutes to trounce the local shuttler who failed to produce a good performance despite having the support of the huge home crowd. The Hong Kong player
ended the contest in two games and entered into the Women’s Singles main draw of the event.
The first game was a thrilling battle between both ladies as they played an attacking game. It was a wonderful show of quality badminton where both shuttlers employed all of their skills to get control over the pace of the game. Yi Mong was in a better position
at the end of the first part of the opening set when she reached at 11-9.
However, after the break, Ya Cheng played a wonderful game by anticipating the strokes of her opponent and levelled the score by reaching at 17-17. At this stage, Yi Mong played fascinating strokes on the back hand side of her opponent and grabbed the first
set by a 21-19 margin, in 20 minutes.
The second game was not that challenging for Yi Mong as she found a wonderful flow and maintained incredible speed. She made her opponent work hard in returning the perfectly executed strokes in all areas of the court. Her anticipation and positive play
earned her a three-point lead of 11-8 in the set.
In the second-half of the set, Yi Mong left no space for Ya Cheng to get points. She played in a dominating way and finished off the second set of the match with a 21-16 score, in 17 minutes. This straight-set contest ended with the victory of Yi Mong by
a 21-19 and 21-16 score on the board.
