Vietnam’s Nguyen Tien Minh marked an easy win over Malaysia’s Goh Soon Huat in the Men’s Singles second round of the 2011 Chinese Taipei Open, in Sinjhuang City, Chinese Taipei, on Thursday, September 8.
Tien Minh is the top seed in the Men’s Singles draw of the event and also has a world ranking of Number 7. He is the top shuttler in Vietnam and has been playing fascinating badminton for the last eight months. Minh was in superb form as he won the second
round match against the Malaysian in straight sets with a big margin.
The top seed played positive and fast badminton against Soon Huat and spared no chance for the Malaysian to dominate the game at any stage in the whole contest. Tien Minh took only 26 minutes to beat his opponent in a straight-set match and continued his
winning run in the event.
The match started in an attacking manner but soon the Vietnamese controlled the pace of the game by occupying the driving seat. His powerful strokes in the back-hand side of his rival destroyed the defence of Soon Huat, who failed to return the bird in the
right areas effectively.
Tien Minh is known for his incredible speed and aggressive approach which makes him a very dangerous shuttler for all his challengers. He displayed the same style of play in the second-round battle against the Malaysian and remained successful in winning
the first set with a wonderful margin of 21-10 in just 12 minutes.
Soon Huat had no answer to the attacking and positive game of his opponent. Tien Minh played with complete control over the bird throughout the second game and spared no room for Soon Huat to win points. His positive approach earned him a psychological edge
over his nervous opponent and he easily finished off the final game with a 21-13 margin, in just 14 minutes.
The Vietnamese shuttler put up a thrilling performance in the encounter and the concluding result of this one-sided match was 21-10 and 21-13.
