Chinese Taipei Open: Tai Tzu Ying narrowly defeats Lindaweni Fanetri to claim Women’s Singles title
Chinese Taipei’s ace shuttler Tai Tzu Ying lived up to the expectations of her home fans as she claimed Women’s Singles title after narrowly beating Indonesia’s Lindaweni Fanetri in an epic final battle at the Chinese Taipei Open Grand Prix Gold in Chinese
Taipei, on Sunday, October 7.
The in-form Taipei shuttler, who was positioned at the top in Women’s Singles draw, had to work really hard to overpower her lower ranked Indonesian challenger in a breath-taking competition that lasted for 72 minutes.
Tzu Ying played to her maximum potential and managed to take the opening game with a tight margin but lost the second set in the similar fashion. In the deciding set, she remained lucky in ending points and took the set and won the match with a narrow margin
on the board.
On the other hand, the un-seeded Lindaweni played to her maximum potential and proved her worth by winning the second game.
However, Indonesian shuttler remained extremely unlucky in the final set when she wasted three match points and lost the match in rubber sets.
In the first game, it was the Indonesian shuttler who put up stunning show of attacking badminton and took a wonderful lead on board until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Tzu Ying played difference game and managed to level the score in the concluding phase. She remained on track and won the opening set with a 21-19 score on the board.
In the second set, both ladies showed aggression on court and progressed with an equal pace until the end of first half.
After the mid-game interval, Indonesian player geared up her speed in all areas of the court and created pressure on Tzu Ying who could not play well and lost the set with a 20-22 score on the board.
In the deciding game, Lindaweni remained in complete control of rallies as she played with precision and also stayed ahead of her rival until the score reached at 20-17.
At this crucial stage, Tzu Ying got inspiration from her huge home crowd and scored five consecutive points to grab the set with a 22-20 margin on the board.
Tzu Ying won the title match in a nail-biting fashion with a dramatic score of 21-19, 20-22 and 22-20.
