Chinese Taipei Open: Wan Yi Tang beats Ching Chieh Tai in Women’s Singles qualifying round
Wan Yi Tang of Chinese Taipei powered her way into the next stage of the Women’s Singles qualifying round after defeating her compatriot, Ching Chieh Tai at the 2011 Chinese Taipei Open, in Chinese Taipei, on Tuesday, September 6.
Both shuttlers proved that the country has a rich crop of players who will shine at the bigger stage very soon as they are touching the top standard of badminton. In the Women’s Singles qualifying round of the Taipei open, Yi Tang and Chieh Tai displayed
remarkable badminton for three sets. However, Yi Tang managed to win the match by playing positive badminton in the final set.
The opening set of the match was a nightmare for Yi Tang, as her opponent was flying in the court with incredible speed. Chieh Tai played positive game coupled with wonderful control over the bird and showed no respect to her rival throughout the game. Yi
Tang failed to match the accuracy and speed of her team-mate, and lost the first game with a margin of 17-21 in just 13 minutes.
The second game was completely different from the previous one, as Yi Tang tackled the speed of her aggressive challenger by playing attacking badminton. She dominated the pace by working well at the net and her spinning net strokes earned her a decent lead
of 11-8 in the first-half.
After the break, Yi Tang progressed in same fashion by playing an aggressive game and remained successful in finishing it with the margin of 21-17, by taking 15 minutes in the court.
The final set of this wonderful fight was very entertaining in the start as both ladies showed their impressive skills. Yi Tang reached at 11-9 at the end of the opening part of the deciding set. She remained fully focused in the second part of the deciding
game and won it with a good margin of 21-15, in just 12 minutes.
The 40-minute Women’s Singles qualifying round contest finished off with the score of 17-21, 21-17 and 21-15.
