Chinese Taipei and France win: FIBA U-19 World Championship for Women July 21 Roundup (Part 3)
Chinese Taipei 83 – Slovenia 73
In the first game of Group-D, Chinese Taipei defeated Slovenia 83-73. Chinese Taipei outclassed Slovenia from behind the arc. They shot 42.9 percent of their three-pointers in comparison to 16.7 percent by the Slovenians.
Yu-Ting Lin led Taipei with 17 points. During her 26 minutes stay on court, Lin went seven of 11 from the field and two of four from the paint. Chi-Fang Chang also tallied 11 points, clutched five rebounds and catered one assist
for Taipei.
For Slovenia, Tjasa Gortnar scored game-high 23 points together with 14 rebounds during. Gortnar shot six of 10 from the field and 11 of 12 from the free throw line while Nika Baric added 12 points, six rebounds and three assists
for Slovenia.
Both teams were on their toes right from the tip off. Taipei however managed to take a slender 20-17 lead at the end of the first frame. The Asians went a step further in the second quarter and outscored the Slovenians 18-12 run
to take a 38-29 at halftime.
In the second half, Slovenia played better offense and matched Taipei throughout. However, the first half advantage proved to a bit too much to overcome for them, resulting in a 10 point loss.
France 59 – Chile 36
In another game of Group-C, France routed Chile 59-36. The French squad dominated Chile from the field with 39.4 percent shooting as compared to Chile’s 22.4 percent.
Valeriane Ayayi led the French with 15 points, five rebounds and one assist. She stayed on court for 20 minutes during which, she shot seven of 10 from the field. Helena Akmouche also scored 13 points, grabbed two rebounds and
provided one assist for France.
Barbara Cousino was the leading scorer for Chile with 13 points. She finished the game with a five of eight shooting from the field including three of five from the three-point range.
France tipped off aggressively. They rattled the South Americans with a 22-4 burst to register their dominance and secured the first quarter in their favour.
However, the French offense went cold in the second quarter. The Chileans reduced French to just eight points during the second quarter. However, their own offense failed to take advantage and the low scoring frame ended 10-8 in
Chile’s favour. At halftime France was still in command with a 30-14 advantage.
After a wobbling second quarter, France did not allow Chile to bounce back in the game. They continued to outplay Chile in the second half and won the game by 23 points.
