Chinese Taipei loses to Thailand to stay without a win – Volleyball news
Women’s national volleyball team of Chinese Taipei dropped another chance to prove its endeavour in the 2012 FIVB World Olympic Qualification Tournament, which is currently underway in Japan.
Chinese Taipei played its fourth match against Thailand and received 0-3 (16-25, 18-25, 20-25) defeat. The Tokyo Metropolitan Gym hosted the match, while more than 1,000 spectators watched the performance.
Victory improved the winning record of Thailand to 2-2, which is a good sign for the team. On contrary, Chinese Taipei moved to 0-4 and constantly remained in the cold waters. C.T suffered the setback on account of weak defence as Thai attackers faced no difficulty to poke the ball over the net.
Outside hitter (OH) Sittirak Onuma led Thailand with match-high 15 points. Thinkaow Pleumjit followed her up 13 points, while Wilavan Apinyapoing and Malika Kanthong registered 12 and 11 respectively.
On the other hand, none of the C.T. players could go into double-figure score. Chen Wan Ting and Teng Yen Min were the top scorers with nine points apiece.
Chinese Taipei had the trouble in reception from the very start of the match. They could not tackle the speedy serves and gave out consecutive points. Thailand enjoyed the better status and influenced the opponent by all means. Thai team served well and attacked with great accuracy and precision. Sittirak was all over the place and added a flurry of points. She enabled her team to rally from 8-5 to 16-10 lead at the second technical timeout.
From that point onward, both teams rallied hard. Thailand added two points, while Chinese Taipei also responded with two points and score moved 18-12. However, Thailand brought more ferocity in attack and pushed the opponents behind. They secured the opening by posting 25-16.
Thailand tried to use the competitive edge in the following but faced a lot of resistance from Chinese Taipei. Score soared up with a close gap up till the first technical timeout. Chinese Taipei played better in the second set but Thailand refused to acknowledge their efforts. Despite a lot of hard work, C.T. lost the second set, 18-25.
Chinese Taipei gave its final shot in third set, in order to stop Thailand. However, the resilient rival Thailand cruised past to 25-20 win and crushed the hopes Taipei squad.
Thailand’s coach Radchatagriengkai said, “Chinese Taipei always plays us tough. They are well coached. They had some good attacks today.”
He further added, “I must congratulate my team and staff for this victory. The Olympics are a dream for our team. We have been working four years for this. We don't have height, but we have been working on technique, speed and strength and trying to raise our psychological level and development to compete on the world level.”
