Chinese Taipei reserves a berth in second round of Asian Women’s Championship
The preliminary robin round of the 16th Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship completed its run on Saturday, September 17 and the host Chinese Taipei wasted no time in punching a ticket to the second round of the tournament. The hosts profited
from the home advantage and demonstrated a spectacular performance in front of local spectators. They finished with a perfect 2-0 record after beating the Indonesian and Iranian teams. In the first fixture on Thursday, Taipei clan downed the Indonesian team
in a one-sided affair. Continuing with the same fanaticism, the hosts won the closely contested second match with Iran on Friday. Chinese Taipei remained unbeaten during the preliminaries and got hold of the top position in Pool A
Chinese Taipei outside hitter Wan Chen Ting led all scorers with her tactful strike. She played a big part in the success of her team in both matches. The captain Teng Yen Min also did justice to her role and kept the team focused on target all the time.
It was simply due to her leadership skills that almost every player on the centre court gave out its best.
C.T. vs. Indonesia 3-0 (25-8, 25-12, and 25-15)
The scoring machine, Wan Chen Ting, helped Chinese Taipei get off to a wonderful start against Indonesians in the tournament opener. The straight aces in serving and cross court attacks devastated the opponents, making them irresistible. Home team forced
the visitors to stick to low score and claimed first set at 25-8. Coming out of the early phase of the game, Indonesia tried to put up little effort in the second set and used different tactics to break the rhythm of Chinese Taipei. However, it proved to be
a failing effort as charged up Taipei players didn’t allow them to hinder their performance. Second set also ended in Chinese Taipei’s favour. Following their success in the first two sets, local hotshots barely had any difficulty in securing third set. They
closed off the game in straight sets and earned three points.
Chinese Taipei vs. Iran 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, and 25-16)
Chinese Taipei carried out the potential in second match on the next day and successfully passed out the test of their skills against Iran. The remarkable strike of Wan Ting and Lin Yi once again helped Chinese Taipei pull away a flurry of scores. Comparatively
saying, Iran was better competitor than the Indonesian team but the Chinese Taipei never relinquished lead throughout the match. The perfect combination of attack and defence enabled the home team to enjoy dominance over visitors. Iranians created a bit of
spark in the second set but overall could not match their performance with Chinese Taipei. They dropped the match in straight sets, while the job was done for home team as it bagged another three points.
This was how Chinese Taipei finished the first robin round of the Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship with 2-0 and clawed its way to the second round.
