Chinese Taipei storms into quarter-finals of Uber Cup 2012 – Badminton Update
It was all well for Chinese Taipei in preliminary stage of Uber Cup Finals as they marched into the quarter-finals after beating Thailand on Tuesday, May 22, 2012.
However, Thailand reserved its right to enter the round of eight as seeded contestant despite facing a 2-3 defeat in their second group match.
The Taipei ladies played attacking badminton and snatched first three points to secure the honour.
On the other hand, the Thai campaigners managed to bag valuable points by clinching last two games of the match which ultimately took them to top position in Group B.
In opening game of match, Women’s Singles expert Tzu Ying Tai set the foundation by trouncing Inthanon Ratchanok in an epic 66-minute fight.
This battle prolonged to three gruelling sets and ended with 21-19, 17-21 and 26-24 scores.
Next were Women’s Doubles partners Cheng Wen Hsing and Chien Yu Chin to join the party. They outclassed opposing team Duanganong Aroonkesorn-Sapsiree Taerattanachai in just two games.
They won first set with a tight yet decisive margin of 21-19 and then blew away their opponents in second set with even more impressive knock of 21-9.
This 2-0 deficit proved too heavy for Thai squad as their Women’s Singles campaigner Porntip Buranaprasertsuk knelt down in third segment of the show.
The Taipei shuttler Hsiao Ma Pai hammered her challenger with a notable margin of 21-19 and 21-17 after sweating hard for 45 minutes in court.
This win gave her compatriots a solid reason to celebrate their first victory in prestigious team event.
However, they missed the opportunity to become group champion as they lost focus in last two games which cost them valuable ranking points.
Fourth encounter of the day was between Wang Pei Rong-Hsieh Pei Chen and Saralee Thoungthongkam-Kunchala Voravichitchaikul and it lasted for 42 minutes.
Saralee-Kunchala wrapped the show in just two sets and raised hands as victors by registering winning totals of 21-19 and 21-16.
Last game saw female shuttler Shih Han Hung conceding walkover and she granted Thai girl Nichaon Jindapon final match point.
Now Chinese Taipei will meet Korea while Thailand is scheduled to face Denmark in quarter-finals of Uber Cup 2012.
