Chinese Women Team ready for the World Championship in Rotterdam: Table Tennis News
The Table Tennis World Championship is going to be staged at Rotterdam, Netherlands. The event will start from the 8 May and conclude on 15 May. The final line-up of the Chinese Women team was announced on 16 April.
The team for Women’s singles category will feature the following; Guo Yan, Li Xiaoxia, Guo Yue, Ding Ning, Liu Shiwen, Wu Yang and Fan Ying. All the players have been appearing in the World Championships women's singles events since 1995. All the players
are holding top ranks in the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Ranking of the current month. Li Xiaoxia is on the top seed followed by Guo Yan, Ding Ning, Guo Yue and Liu Shiwen.
The only player who will be absent from action will Zhang Yining who was the strongest competitor on the Chinese team. She announced her retirement earlier this month from international table tennis. Her absence will be an advantage for the women players
on the squad.
Li Xiaoxia was the runner up in 2007 and Guo Yan in 2005 Olympics. Guo Yue has not performed well in recent games at the ITTF Pro Tours despite of winning the 2007 title and 2009 runners-up seed. Her performance at the championship is still in doubt.
Ding Ning first appeared in the World Championship at Yokohama where she was defeated by her compatriot, Li Xiaoxia, in the round of four. Ding Ning is in full form with two women's singles titles at the ITTF Pro tours this year, the English open and
the United Arab Emirates open.
The fifth member of the Chinese women squad is Liu Shiwen who has won the bronze medal at Yokohama in the women's single event. She reached the semi-finals but was defeated by Zhang Yining.
Also to complete from the team Fan Ying and Wu Yang will be on duty at Rotterdam. Wu Yang is the winner of the Slovenian Open earlier this year and the World Junior champion in 2009. This will be her debut at the World Championship.
Fan Ying will appear on the World championship, earlier she was present in 2005 at Shanghai. She was beaten by the 17-year-old, Guo Yue, a player who was two years younger than her at the round of four of the women's single category.
In the women's doubles squad there will be Guo Yue pairing with Li Xiaoxia. The duo is also the defending champion of the title. Guo Yan and Ding Ning were the runners-up in the last championship. There will also be Mu Zi partnering with Feng Yalan.
A repeat of the last championship can occur if Guo Yue and Li Xiaoxia win the title once again this time.
Cao Zhen and will also be competing from China in the mixed doubles. She was the title holder at Yokohama along with Li Ping. This time she will be pairing up with Zhang Cao. The Chinese women will be defending their dominancy at the championship.
