Chinese Women squad ready to take up World Championship Challenge – Table tennis Update
Women's Singles title of the 2010 World Championship Table Tennis was clinched by Singaporean Women player, Feng Tianwei. The results were alarming for Chinese players, as they were not expecting a defeat at the final hurdle.
Top seeded player from the Singaporean squad, Feng Tianwei, caused the major up-set of the championship and defeated Ding Ning and Liu Shiwen to clinch the gold at the mega table tennis event. The title led her to gain over-night fame on the international
table tennis circuit. The Chinese team felt depressed and this year they are aiming for regaining their glory in the game, once again.
For Feng Tianwei, her condition right now is not up to the level she had during the last year’s championship. She has moved from second to the sixth rank on the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World ranking. Despite of a regular decrease in
her performance graph, Head Coach of the Singapore Women's team, Wang Chun, is quite optimistic about her performance in the forthcoming Championship.
The strength of the Singaporean team lies in the fact that top players of the Women's team are basically Chinese-born. The players have been playing in the top Chinese Super League before becoming Singaporean nationals.
Japanese women team also has some of the finest table tennis players, who are capable of causing major upsets against the Chinese. The three Japanese players Ai Fukuhara, Kasumi Ishikawa, and Sayaka Hirano join forces to make a strong squad for the forthcoming
mega table tennis event. The most prominent player of the Japanese squad, “porcelain doll,” Ai Fukuhara is famous for her strength and beauty.
This year she was unable to grasp any major title on the ITTF Pro Tours. In the Volkswagen Cup earlier this year, Ai Fukuhara ended at the third position on the medal podium. She lost against Chinese player, Li Xiaoxia, who was eventually the winner of the
championship.
There would also be strong contenders for the title coming from Korea at the World Championship. Kim Kyung Ah and Park Mi Young are in good form to compete in the Championship. Kim Kyung Ah has won bronze medal at the 2004 Olympics.
Another player, who can be a major threat in the championship, is Seok Ha Jung. She has shown impressive performances at the Asian games by defeating Liu Shiwen from China. In the Dubai Table Tennis World Cup, she overcame Li Xiaoxia. Tie Yana and Jiang
Huajun from Hong Kong are also considered amongst the top players of the table tennis circuit.
The Chinese team has learned a lot over the year and they are ready to overcome the defeat they faced last year.
