Chinese algae eater?

my tank does not have any algae for my Chinese algae eater to eat and i cannot afford sinking pellets

will he eat sunken peas and sunken flake

also he likes to hide allot is this ok

  1. I have to of them, they will eat any algae that starts to form in your tank, even if you can't see it. They will also go for the flake food your other fish leave behind. It is okay if they hide, once the lights go out they do their job. Good luck.

  3. CAE's are more omnivores than dedicated algae eaters as their name suggests. Until they are about 4" long they are mostly herbivorous and it will eat algae, blanched veges like cucumber as well as things like bloodworm. As it goes over 4" it will become more aggressive and any smaller fish will begin to disappear. CAE's do NOT make good community fish.
