Chinese and Korean shuttlers win two medals each on final day of the 2011 Macau Open Grand Prix Gold
Chinese and Korean shuttlers proved their worth on the final day as they took two medals each at the 2011 Macau Open Grand Prix Gold, on Sunday, December 4, at the indoor arena in Macau. The Chinese players took medals in the categories of Women’s Singles and Men’s Doubles, while the Koreans emerged as the winners in the Men’s Singles and Women’s Doubles.
The opening match of the day was the final of Women’s Singles between the top seed and World Number Two Wang Shixian and her emerging young team-mate Li Han. It was a straight-set match as the higher ranked Chinese finished it up in straight games by taking 45 minutes in the court. Han failed to dominate the game against the higher ranked compatriot, who finished up the match in straight games with a margin of 21-14 and 21-14.
The second match of the final day of Macau Open was Men’s Doubles’ final where the China’s World Number Seven shuttlers Chai Biao and Guo Zhendong were up against Korea’s Ko Sung Hyun and Yoo Yeon Seong, who are ranked at number four in the world rankings.
The Chinese shuttlers, who were seeded at number three in the Men’s Doubles draw of the event, put up stunning performance against the top seeded Korean pair and finished the match in straight sets with a margin of 21-19 and 21-19. The Koreans failed to stop the aggressive play of the young Chinese opponent and lost the title match without winning even a single game.
The third contest of the day was the title match of Women’s Doubles, where both Korean shuttlers were up against each other to win glory. The higher ranked pair of Kyung Eun Jung and Ha Na Kim started their journey against their un-seeded compatriots, Hye Won Eom and Ye Na Jang in an aggressive way.
The higher ranked Koreans were leading the game with a margin of 8-4 when their opponents stopped playing because Ye Na faced an injury. The final score of this Women’s Doubles title match was 8-4 because one of the lower ranked shuttlers was retired hurt.
The last contest of the final day of Macau Open was the battle of men’s Singles, where China’s World Number 10, Du Pengyu was up against Korea’s World Number 15, Lee Hyun Il. The Korean put up superb show by showing his wonderful class and won the match in three games by taking the court time for 80 minutes.
It was an impressive fight between two experienced shuttlers. It was the Chinese who took advantage by winning the first game of the match. However, the Korean played remarkable badminton in the second set and levelled the score by winning it with an incredible difference. In the final game of the match, the Korean employed his experience in the ending points and won the set with a decent margin. The overall score of the final match was 17-21, 21-11 and 21-18.
With these convincing victories, the Chinese and Korean shuttlers proved their dominance in the game. They have obtained precious ranking points which will help them in getting better standing for the 2012 London Olympics. All top shuttlers in the world of badminton are trying their best to earn as much ranking points as they can because the qualifying round for the Olympic Games will end on May 1, 2012.
