Chinese Dinner What to cook?

I am having a chinese dinner this saturday for my partner and my parents. I am unsure what to cook besides my famous fried rice recipe, spring rolls and prawn crackers.

What else can i cook? Any one got some excellent recipies? I really love lemon chicken and plum pork but i have never made it before and dont have a recipie. Anyone got any nice unique chinese dishes to cook? Also what is a great dessert to go with? Not necessarily chinese style dessert though.

  1. My sister and brother in law have a Meyer's Lemon tree. So when I get a lot of lemons from her, I make Lemon Chicken.

I get some chicken parts (usually thighs and drumsticks which I cut apart or chicken wings) and marinade them for a couple hours in soy sauce.  Then I set them in a deep pie dish and slice a couple of whole lemons (you'll have a lot of slices and they'll look like wheels) and then place them over all the chicken.  Then I sprinkle some granulated sugar (not too much unless your lemons are real sour) and steam until chicken is done.

You can bake it too.  Cover and do it at 350 degrees until chicken is done..  Time would depend if chicken was just removed from the refrigerator or if chicken is closer to room temperature when you stick it in the oven.

    --------------------------------------...

    my favorite is Teriyaki Chicken

    from Sunset Magazine

    1/2 cup soy sauce

    2 Tablespoons sugar

    1 tsp salt

    2 inch piece fresh ginger

    Marinade your chicken pieces overnight

Next day preheat your oven 350 degrees

Bake until done (35 min. up to 60 min.) depending on size of pieces, how close they are in your pan and how cold the chicken is.  If you've just removed the chicken from the refrigerator it will take longer.

I learned that about timing when I invited some friends over and it took longer than usual to bake the chicken. Although I had made the Teriyaki without failure many times, the day I asked them over, it took longer.  That's because the chicken went from refrigerator directly to the preheated oven.
