Chinese herbal medicine with weird ingredients & Islam?

I have always had a problems with my skin breaking out. Its quite annoying, but also I am worried because sometimes it scars. I've tried so many products and medicine - and to my frustration nothing works!!!

I know a chinese-herbal-medicine-lady, and I've heard wonders about her remedies, but I am not sure if it would be permissable to take her medicine because it contains odd ingredients e.g. boiled cochroaches, insects, maybe even pork.

I know you're allowed to consume pork if it is used as medicine which will make you better, but seeing as I'm not using this medicine as a matter of life or death ... do you think that it would be permissable for me to take it?

Thanks for your answers in advance?

  1. You say you have always had a problem with your skin breaking out but you don't say what is the skin condition or the cause.

hmm, my kids have exzema and it is controlled absolutely wonderfully with palmers olive butter body balm. Google it you can buy it off line. I get mine from a hair store in my city. Its in the olive oil.

If it is a recurring problem that doesn't have a cure and you know this by speaking to a dermatologist then I wouldn't use a product which is not lawful and is only lawful in necessity. Necessity meaning you can not use anyother product except a certain kind.

peace and best wishes. All of our conditions and anything we have to fight in our lives is a test from Allah. Take care of yourself.

  2. I get really strange highs and lows, and was planning to take bach flower remedies. I bought them, and smelt them, and found out they had alcohol in them. I ain't taking the medicine coz what I have is not life threatening. Probably just hormonal anyway.

If it's haram, then you sdhould only take it if the problem is very serious.

  3. you know what?  Evening Primrose Oil is great for one's skin. I promise :)

why the thumbs down people?  Evening Primrose Oil is excellent for one's skin.  It's a known fact and I am living proof.  I always get compliments on my skin :)

  4. No, it is not haram relying on the verse:

"He hath forbidden you only carrion, and blood, and swineflesh, and that which hath been immolated to (the name of) any other than Allah. But he who is driven by necessity, neither craving nor transgressing, it is no sin for him. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. انما حرم عليكم الميتة والدم ولحم الخنزير وما اهل به لغير الله فمن اضطر غير باغ ولا عاد فلا اثم عليه ان الله غفور رحيم "

    Surah 2 verse 173.

Scholars have agreed that curing is a "necessity". However; I suggest you to use "Royal Jelly". Swallow 2 drops\ day for a month; and you'll see the result. (Provided you are not allergic to it).

Forget about "El Tebb Al Nabawy", our prophet was a Prophet عليه الصلاة و السلام and not a doctor. He used what was used by traditions then and he did not invent anything in Medicine. He even asked Hafsa عليها السلام to learn medecine from a lady who used to cure poisons.

I don't know when will Muslims who answer rely on their holy book instead of other books?

  5. From list of things your religion shouldn't get in the way of:

    #45675754: Your health

That aside, I'd suggest going to a Dermatologist rather than a Chinese medicine-lady

  6. My advice sister is to buy the book "at-Tibb an Nabawee" (the Prophetic Medicine) by Ibn al Qayyim. It's translated and you can find it on www.uprightbooks.com or on Dar us Salam publishing website.

Stay away from these strange ingredients because for medicine, we are told to use that which is Tayyiba (good) and not that which is khabeeth (vile), and boiled roaches and pork are vile and not to be used as healing.

    Shaykh bin Baaz mentioned:

This is based on what Abu Dawud recorded in his  Sunan  from Abu al-Darda, that the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi-wasallam) said,

"Allah has descended the illness and its remedy. And for every illness, He has created its remedy. Therefore, use medicines for each other but do not use anything forbidden as a remedy."

The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi-wasallam) also said,

"Allah did not place your cures in what He has forbidden for you."

Recorded by al-Baihaqi. Ibn Hibban has declared it authentic, from the hadith narrated by Umm Salama.

  7. I agree with what Abul Haarith has said, but just so you know not all Chinese herbal medicines have weird ingredients in them. My dad specialises in Chinese medicine and I've taken some of the herbal medicines, they taste narrrsty but they actually do work wonders, and have no side effects.

  8. for my skin acne.. I bought a bottle of pure tea tree oil from GNC and then some non oily face lotion (like olay) and I mixed a couple of drops of the tea tree in the lotion bottle and use this on my face at night.. It control acne well.. if I have a major breakout (during those monthly hormonal swings) I use pure tea tree right on the spot....
