Question:

Chinese pilots being trained at an Airforce......?

Recently, I discovered Chinese pilots being trained on a closed Airforce Base in Atwater, Ca. A private company named Sierra Aeronautics is currently using a closed base to operate a training facility open only to Chinese pilots. They have even converted the barracks on base into apartments and charge an outrageous amount of money. Does anyone else find it strange or concerning with regard to the fact that they are able to roam this old base freely and basically see the layout? Just curious.

  1. They trained Iraq in the 80s and Iran in the 60&70s whats new

  2. When the base was closed it is usually given back to the local community for them to do as they see fit. They probably sold it to that company. Germans are roaming all over old U.S. Air Bases in Germany that have different facilities on them such as the Base Chapel is now a strip club. The barracks a hotel. A hanger is now a facility for go cart racing. The Russians if they wished could study the base layout there. In fact in the 1970s they did from the other side of the fence with binoculars.

  3. I don't believe it for a bit.  Provide some proof and I'll look into it.  We don't train Chinese pilots.  For one thing they use different aircraft then we do and also have a much different training doctrine.  I think you 'discovered' something else.

  4. What base layout ?

Every AFB is different and has a different layout.

Plus, they can see every base from satelites, so what good would being on the ground do ?

It might help on an active duty base, then they could measure security.

But on an old closed base, there is nothing to learn.
