Chinese players are scared of me on court, says Indian badminton star Saina Nehwal
India’s most popular badminton star Saina Nehwal expressed that she has got a certain level in badminton and has become a potential threat to Chinese players who are scared of the Indian shuttler on court.
Nehwal, who has been positioned at number five in Women’s Singles world placements, put up spectacular performance in all of her matches at London Olympics and remained successful in taking home a bronze medal which is the first in Indian history in the
game of badminton.
After winning the bronze medal, Nehwal said that her major battle will continue against the Chinese shuttlers and she needs to remain fit in order to overcome them in upcoming tournaments.
The Indian shuttler also expressed that the skill gap between her and the Chinese opponents is very close now and that she will put in her best to tackle them on court.
She stated, “In more recent times, it has always been this way. There has been no one really challenging the Chinese in badminton. And suddenly they realised there is Saina and I know, I can feel it, Chinese players get scared of me on court.”
She further added, “That’s a good thing to happen as I know I am confident I can win against any of them. In recent times I have defeated five or six of the Chinese and with every win there is a lot of confidence.”
The spirited Nehwal showed her brilliance on court in all matches at Wembley Arena and proved that she has attained a highest level when it comes to technical and tactical play of the game.
The spirited Nehwal has been working extremely hard under the supervision of Pullela Gopichand, who is the former All England Champion and current national coach of India.
In the last month, Nehwal proved her mettle at the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2012 in Jakarta when she outplayed China’s Li Xuerui who has recently won the gold medal at Olympic Games which clearly shows that the skill gap is getting closer.
Nehwal is determined to put up good show in the upcoming events as she has got a greater level of confidence after winning a medal at London Olympics.
