Chinese players enter finals of the Men's Doubles of the World Championship – Table tennis Update
Chinese players have reached the finals of the Men's Doubles of the 2011 GAC GROUP World Table Tennis Championships, at the Ahoy Arena Netherlands, on May 14.
There were three Chinese pairs who contested in the semi-finals. The Chinese are looking forward to sweep away all the top positions of the World Championship. In the semi-finals, there was only one non-Chinese player present to challenge the dominant world
champions.
In the first semi-final, the duo of MA Long and Xu Xin faced the pair from Korea of Jung Young Sik and Kim Min Seok. Koreans were the only hope for spectators to witness Chinese players to compete against a pair from some other country in the final hurdle.
MA Long and Xu Xin won the first two games, while the Koreans made a comeback and levelled proceedings in the third game. Despite the spirited effort, the Chinese duo blocked the Koreans and consecutively won the next two games. The final score of the match
was 11-2, 11-4, 6-11, 12-10, 11-13, 11-7.
The Koreans were the only team to reach the semi-finals of the Men's Doubles, except the Chinese side. Earlier in the tournament, the Chinese ended the progress of players from Belarus, Germany and Japan in the fourth round of the event.
The second semi-final of the Men's doubles was competed amongst Chen Qi and MA Lin with their compatriot duo of Wang Hao and Zhang Jike. Both pairs knew each others’ game style very well, ensuring it to be a thrilling encounter. They have been practicing
together at the Werner Schlager academy and also play for the Chinese national team.
Wang Hao and Zhang Jike won the first game of the match, but the duo of Chen Qi and MA Lin won the next three games. Wang and Zhang were in no mood to lose the final battle and won the fifth game to keep the game alive. Wang Hao and Zhang Jike did not let
their compatriots make a comeback and sealed the game by a final score-line of the match was 8-11, 11-8, 11-4, 11-6, 9-11, 11-8.
The finals will be played on the evening of May 14 at the Ahoy Arena, where the Chinese are headed towards a clean sweep on the medal tables.
