Chinese players on the hunt at Thailand Open on OneAsia Tour
Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat has now grabbed an outright lead at the halfway mark of the Thailand Open on OneAsian Tour after posting a stellar five-under, 67 on the second round of the $1-million event.
The burly Aphibarnrat is one of the finest golfers to have come out from Thailand in recent times and has already posted some encouraging performances on the OneAsia Tour. He took advantage of the home crowd supporting him on every shot to clinch the lead
through the half way mark of the tournament and will be hoping to capitalize on the gains in the proceeding rounds.
Aphibarnrat started off his day with a glorious eagle at par-five, 2nd but fell in for a bogey on the fifth hole. He pulled in a total of five birdies, an eagle and two bogeys in the day to stay on top the leaderboard.
Young Chinese trailblazing golfer, Ashun Wu also shot into contention with five-under, 67 on the second day and is now trailing the leader by one shot. Wu carded six birdies and dropped just one shot at par-three, 6th to stay one shot clear of
the fast approaching Australian Ashley Hall.
Wu is highest ranked Chinese player on the OneAsia Tour, poised at number 23rd and has already posted top-15 finishes in his six appearances on the tour for this season.
A student of the David Leadbetter Academy in Florida, anther Chinese player Mu Hu is also of the view that OneAsia Tour has supplemented the Chinese players immensely in the course of their careers. Hu is currently tied for the joint 29th with
a second round score of two-over, 74.
"OneAsia provides Chinese golfers with a lot more tournament opportunities than they had before. There is no doubt about that," he said. "As a result, everybody is getting better and better and playing well in tournaments. Golf is still young in China and
the professional players are still getting used to the travel and the courses."
Asian star golfer Thongchai Jaidee, the former money leader on Asian Tour, is also edging his way up with a three-under, 69 on the second day and is currently poised at six under on the aggregate.
He is now tied for the ninth place with another ten players including Michael Hendry, Thaworn Wiratchant, Somprat Rattanasuwan, Jamie Arnold, Brent McCullough, Neven Basic, Prom Meesawat, Re Han, Thanyakon Khrongpha and John Huh.
