Chinese players retain the top ranks of the April ITTF World ranking – Table Tennis Update
The winners of the Volkswagen Cup, Wang Hao and Li Xiaoxia end up on the top position on the International Table Tennis Federation World ranking. The ITTF has issued their monthly rankings on 4
April, 2011.
Wang Hao overcame Timo Boll the top ranked player of the ITTF ranking from January to March in the final of the Volkswagen Cup. Wang Hao is a 27-year old player from China and he first held the top position in December 2004. Later in 2009, Wang again occupied
the top position, but over the last two years he was not able to make to the top of the Men’s Singles ranking.
Boll from Germany moves down to the second seed in the ranking. There are six Chinese players on the top-ten Men's ranking of April. Ma Long has dropped two places down on the ranking from third to the fifth position.
For Zhang Jike and Ma Lin from China there was progress in their ranking, as they moved a step ahead in the current table. Xu Xin retained his seed as Number six. Jun Mizutani from Japan is at Number seven seed followed by Belarusian player Vladimir Samsonov,
Wang Liqin from China and Joo See Hyuk from Korea.
For Lee Sang Su from Korea there was a climb up on the ranking from Number 70 to the Number 52 rank. This is the best ranking of his playing career, as he is enjoying this seed as the result of winning the Polish Open in March held at Wladyslawowo.
In the Under-21 category, Xu Xin from China retained his top position followed by Kim Min Seok Korea and Kenta Matsudaira from Japan. In the Under-18 Boy's category, Japan’s Koki Niwa is on the top seed followed by Lin Gaoyuan from China and Song Hongyuan.
In the Under-15 ranking it is Zheng Peifeng from China on the top seed. Kong Lingxuan is on the second position and Asuka Sakai on the third.
Li Xiaoxia from China moved to the Number one seed once again this year in the Women's Singles World ITTF ranking. She held the top position earlier in February, but moved down to the Number two seed, as Guo Yan held the Number one seed in March and January
this year.
There was not much change in the top ten ranking, as most of the players retained their positions. Ding Ning, Guo Yue and Liu Shiwen from China occupy three places respectively. Feng Tianwei still on the Number sixth rank, Fukuhara Ai from Japan moved to the
seventh seed after defeating Jiang Huajun from Hong Kong at the Volkswagen Cup in the initial round.
In the Women’s Under-21 ranking, the top three positions are occupied by Chinese players. Ding Ning on the top seed followed by Liu Shiwen and Wu Yang. The Under-18 Girl’s Number one seed is held by Ishikawa Kasumi from Japan.
