Chinese seaweed?

I have heard rumours that seaweed in chinese restaurants is actually cabbage.

Can anyone tellme if this is true or false and how they know .

  1. Hey mate. Its definitely cabbage. Promise. And d**n good it tastes too.


  2. it should be seaweed, the difference between cabbage and seaweed is big, the taste and the look is totally different. Cabbage is far away from seaweed and as you have different kinds of cabbage you have different kinds of seaweeds, but no seaweed looks or taste like cabbage

  3. It's true though it still tastes pukka anyway...

  4. it is thinly sliced 'spring greens' - a specific type of cabbage, deep fried flavored with salt, sugar and sometimes MSG (monosodium-glutimate, a  flavor enhancer also called Chinese salt)

  5. LOL... it's seaweed. Seaweed is as cheap as cabbage in chinese markets.
