Chinese shuttler Li Xuerui tames Tai Tzu Ying in Women’s singles semi-final of All England Open
China has now a confirmed Women’s singles crown in All England Open as Li Xuerui defeated Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei in the semi-final on March 10, 2012.
The World Number five Chinese shuttler Li Xuerui earned the right to be in the final by thrashing her opponent semi-finalist with 19-21, 21-16 and 21-10 score on the board.
The win pits her against the compatriot Wang Yihan in the final which means a sure crown for China in the event.
The Chinese female shuttler Li Xuerui sealed the victory in semi-final against the Taipei rival Tai Tzu Ying after sweating in three exhausting sets which lasted for 52 minutes.
Semi-finalist Tai Tzu Ying took a great start and captured first match point straight away in the opening set. She pushed her Chinese rival in all areas of the court and clinched the crucial match point by registering 21-19 points on the score board.
However, the Taipei shuttler could not continue with her form in the following sets so the first set loss did not harm the Chinese shuttler Li Xuerui much and she stormed back in the next game. She stopped her Taipei rival from turning the first set win
into straight-set victory.
The Chinese Li Xuerui controlled the pace of the game before ending the second set with a significant margin of 21-16.
The spectators were expecting a lot of fireworks in the decisive third set but their thirst was not filled as it turned in to a completely one-sided tussle. The World Number 16 Taipei player Tai Tzu Ying did not have any reply to her rival’s attack as the
Chinese shuttler displayed her prime badminton skills.
Li Xuerui sealed the victory with a notable margin of 21-10 and bagged the honour of being the second finalist in the World’s oldest badminton event.
This win doubled China’s celebration in the Women’s singles event as two Chinese will be contesting in the final to raise the country’s flag in the All England Open.
Meanwhile, China’s Women’s doubles, Men’s singles and Men’s doubles teams have also made their cut into the finals, to be held on March 11, 2012.
