Chinese shuttlers annihilate Danish players in the final of the Sudirman Cup 2011 – Badminton News
Chinese shuttlers have hammered the Danish team in the final showdown of the Sudirman Cup 2011, at Qingdao Sports Centre, China, on Sunday, May 29.
The Chinese players delivered a superb performance to help China in winning this biggest team championship title for the fourth consecutive time. China clinched the title-match with a stunning 3-0 margin. Despite a spirited show, the Danish steam was beaten
by a team which possessed better class.
Head coach of the Chinese team, Li Yongbo, appreciated his team as his shuttlers crushed the Danish squad.
Yongbo said, “Denmark were strong. Most of their players are experienced and quite old but it was difficult for them against us today. Today's performance was the best of the week. We recovered from some small difficulties in the group stages to find the
confidence to put on a good performance in the final.”
After losing the match, Peter Hoeg Gade of Denmark said that it is very difficult to win against Chinese players on their home ground.
In the opening fight of Mixed Doubles encounter, Ma Jin and Xu Chen of China thrashed Christinna Pedersen and Joachim Fischer Nielsen of Denmark in a one-sided straight-set match, by a margin of 21-14 and 21-14.
In the following battle of the Men’s Singles, local hero, Lin Dan, hammered the top Danish player, Peter Hoeg Gade, in a completely one-sided affair. Lin played tremendously well without committing any error and pushed his opponent in all corners of the
court. He finished the game with a wonderful difference of 21-16 and 21-11.
Fu Haifeng and Cai Yun confirmed China’s victory by beating the Danish pair of Jonas Rasmussen and Carsten Mogensen, in straight-sets. The Chinese duo spared no chance for their Danish opponents to put up any sort of resistance and clinched the match by
a 21-17 and 21-13 score.
Among the twelve editions of the Sudirman Cup, China has emerged as the winner on eight occasions. China’s current victory over Denmark earned them their fourth consecutive title in the prestigious championship.
