Chinese shuttlers are not superior anymore, says Danish legend Morten Frost Hansen – Badminton news
Morten Frost Hansen, the former World Number One from Denmark, who is considered as one of the most complete shuttler of all-time, said that Chinese shuttlers are not superior anymore as many other players with incredible skills are also performing well.
In the last two decades, Chinese shuttlers proved their supremacy by winning numerous titles in all major events indicating that they are the best in the business. They established a firm dominance in all categories of the game which has made China the biggest
powerhouse of badminton in the world.
Shuttlers including the ruling World Number One, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, World Number Three, Peter Hoeg Gade of Denmark and World Number Five, Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia, have the skills to challenge China's dominance. However, all these three shuttlers
are on the verge of the end of their professional careers as they are expected to leave the international arena of badminton after the 2012 London Olympics.
Nevertheless, there are some young shuttlers who will replace Lin Dan, Chong Wei, Peter Gade and Hidayat. According to Morton Frost, two young shuttlers are quite prominent among the rest of the lot and they are Wang Zhengming of China and Viktor Axelsen
of Denmark. He thinks that both shuttlers are quite committed to performing well at the international level.
However, he added, “It is unfair to compare these players with the two most prominent players of this era – Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei. Lin Dan and Chong Wei have made their marks and will be known as the greatest players over the last decade."
While talking about some other great shuttlers of the present time, Frost said, “Denmark’s Peter-Gade Christensen will also be remembered together with Taufik Hidayat (of Indonesia). Every era has its own stars ... like how Rudy Hartono of Indonesia and
Yang Yang of China ruled the roost during their time.”
According to Frost, the upcoming generation of shuttlers will put more thrill and excitement in the game, which will attract a lot of other youngsters to the sport.
