Chinese shuttlers prove their superiority at the 2011 China Masters Super Series – Badminton news
Chinese shuttlers proved their superiority again by clinching four out of five titles in all categories of the game at the 2011 China Masters Super Series, which ended on Sunday, September 18, in Changzhou, China.
At last month’s Badminton World Federation World Championships, China made a clean sweep by winning all five titles and proved that they are the best in the world. At the China Masters Super Series, the hosts clinched four titles and lost only one, which
was the Men’s Doubles final when the Korean pair defeated the Chinese duo to deny a clean sweep.
In the Men’s Singles category, World Number Four, Chen Long of China defeated compatriot, Chen Jin in the final showdown of the home event and claimed the crown.
The Women’s Singles battle was also an all-Chinese affair, as both shuttlers who contested for the title were from China. World Number Two, Wang Shixian won the title by beating Jiang Yanjiao, who got a knee injury and could not complete the match.
In the Women’s Doubles category, World Number One pair of Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang lost to Tang Jinhua and Huan Xia. Both top seeds were carrying injuries which forced them to leave the match unfinished.
Yu said, “It is a pity that we couldn't finish the final. We were eager to defend our title but both of us aren't in the good condition. I had a stomach problem after arriving in Changzhou, and my partner sprained her ankle in yesterday's match.”
In the category of Mixed Doubles, Xu Chen and Ma Jin of China crushed Korea’s Jang Ye Na and Yoo Yeon Seong in the title-match and won the crown.
China missed the only title in the category of Men’s Doubles as the World Number One, Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng of China lost the final match to World Number Two pair of Jung Jae Sung and Lee Yong Dae of Korea. The Koreans won the title against the top seeds
and proved that they will be a tough pair to beat in upcoming events.
