Question:

Chipped tooth..shaving it down

I have a chip in one of my front teeth. My dentist said it was too small to put the stuff on it that makes it looks like a normal tooth because it would just fall right off. (Sorry, not sure what that is called!) I'm thinking about getting it shaved down but I'm scared that it is going to look different from my other front tooth.

Have you ever gotten a chipped tooth shaved down? Does it look normal?

I can't stay with this chipped tooth anymore because I am constantly worrying that I'm going to break my entire tooth!

Help!!

  1. Sometimes a chip is so small,  the dentist can just file the rough part down a bit,  and then the tooth looks normal.   If the chip is too small to hold a white composite or resin filling,  he may have to drill a little bit to give it something to hold onto,  and then a white filling can be used.

It all depends on the size and shape of the chip.   If it's bugging you though,  either of these methods will make you feel better,  and both should be covered by any insurance.

  2. Yes I have on one of my front teeth. It looks exactly the same as the others and you cannot tell anything happened. It takes less than 5 minutes and it will be fixed. Don't worry, it will look great.
