Chipper Jones admits he is ordinary on the plate since returning from Disabled List - MLB Update
Knee surgery that third-baseman Chipper Jones had in Spring Training did not affect his performance on the plate as much as the recent surgery on his leg.
Far from how he fared before the recent Disabled List stint, he has been ordinary in the last many games. Not just as a hitter, defensive work at third-base has also seen a decline. One can watch Jones, uncharacteristic to his calibre, making fumbles and
costing runs.
For a player to make the last season worth remembering for the rest of life is a most cherished desire. Similarly, as Jones goes through penultimate moments as a Major Leaguer, he aims to take the Braves to substantial position in the season by the dint
of his slugging mastery.
Jones has been a significant link in the success of the Braves’ offence. For the time-period he was left out, the Braves witnessed decline in hits and runs. In-fact, a number of games were lost, thanks to a little support the offence provided to the pitchers.
Finally, Jones had joined the line-up again, but contrary to what the Braves fancied, he struggled.
In hindsight, if one traces his decline, one will find that he can blame none other than but himself. When he was about to come off the DL, manager Fredi González and rest of the crew wanted him to appear in rehab games and get into the groove before returning
to the season.
On this, Jones was assertive to come back at the earliest and refused to what the manager will otherwise may have wanted. For the same reason, as now one can say, Jones is taking his time and is lacking practice.
Jones is not hesitant to admit that he has not had reasonable number of at-bats before coming back.
“I didn’t pick up a bat for 16, 17 days,” Jones said. “It’s going to take its toll. And it’s not just offensively, it’s defensively too. I’ve made a couple of bad errors since I’ve been back. But it’ll sharpen up.”
As the Braves head to forthcoming games, they will like to find Jones improving sharply and turning out to be as good a slugger as he is.
