Chipper Jones believes Todd Helton will be successful in 2013 season - MLB Update
The age difference between Chipper Jones and Todd Helton is not huge but the former has decided to retire after this season whereas the latter still is confident that he can play next year and perform well. Jones has made the declaration citing his desire
to give more time to his family despite boasting the credentials to continue playing for more years.
On the other hand Todd Helton has gone through the hip labrum surgery in order to prolong his career.
While commenting on his plan to comeback in the upcoming season, Jones has shown little doubt in Helton’s ability to remain a reliable hitter and a fielder for the Colorado Rockies for years to come.
Helton has attained a series of laurels in his career. However at the age of 39 the fans can easily be skeptical of his power and the ability to produce runs for the team. Along with his age, his recent injury is likely to mount concerns of the stakeholders.
Despite possessing all that a team can expect from their hitter, he is vulnerable to criticism more than other players.
In light of this, the surgery that he underwent can serve as an argument that he is about to play consistently for the team now with all his offensive power and defensive skills. The fact Jones has also expressed faith in his credentials despite knowing
that he is ageing can make fans believe that he can return in the next season.
Dispelling the notion that every player should follow a similar pattern to end the career, Jones is of the view that for as long as Helton feels comfortable playing he can do so. Going through the surgery by him means that he is upbeat to serve the club
until the next season.
"He will know when it's time. He had surgery for a reason. He was hurting pretty bad," Jones said. "Can he come back and be productive? I have no doubt that he can. Todd Helton is a tremendous player offensively and defensively. And if he can go out there
and be productive, he's going to do it. That's his mentality."
Jones has a tremendous season so far and has been part and parcel of most of the victories that the Atlanta Braves enjoyed. Since he is retiring after this season, he will be looking to end his career on a high.
