Chipper Jones calls his occasional in-roads in the games as the only way to go in the season - MLB
Living up to his repute every inch in the season, Chipper Jones is fluent and yet unable to get over an endemic of his injury-prone body. Once he is in, the Atlanta Braves witness the best of him and just when they will like to make a plan they want to draw
from in the season, he sits out due to his left knee injury re-aggravated in one form or the other.
Effectively, he keeps the manager Fredi Gonzalez busy in making due adjustments in his strategy this way.
Unfortunately for him, his body maintains a peculiarity of its own. One day he will feel great and the next, he will be like never playing again in the season.
The manager has to keep in touch with him constantly before every game to know if he can play or if he has to look for a reliable replacement.
“I told him if my knee feels good, I want to play,” said Jones. “It felt good the last day against Pittsburgh, and it felt really bad (Tuesday). It bounced back, it feels good today, so back in there.”
Thus, Jones has hit upon a conclusion that for him playing as per the plan will be difficult and he will be making the decision just before the start of every game.
This calls for the Braves to start looking for proper substitute at third-base, one who can prove just equally effective in making stunning plays from there.
Jones is extremely unhappy at his constant vulnerability to injury.
“I’m of the mindset to go out there and play every day,” Jones said. “It’s frustrating when we get a little something going, a little continuity on the offensive end, and I can’t stay in there, day in and day out.”
The Braves have put Juan Francisco as a replacement. Much to their happiness, he has done an extremely good job so far in the games Jones has missed out on.
As regard to Jones performance in the season, the Braves will see major dent in their progress if his intermittent plays in the season end up somewhere around taking him out of the season permanently.
In order to lift his side to an enviable place in the season and experience a memorable last season of his career, Jones will be looking to come out of the present mess and sustain through the season unhindered.
