Chipper Jones is heartfelt on allegations of sign stealing by Jamie Moyer - MLB Update
Taking the allegations as infringing upon his integrity, Chipper Jones lashes out at Jamie Moyer. Nearly swearing to have not done it, he was utterly frustrated and calls the allegations of sign stealing as nothing more than plain lies.
In the first place, Jones said he did not realise whether Moyer was talking of him.
During the game, Jones stood on second base as Moyer threw the pitches. In the meantime, Moyer drew a feeling that Jones is relaying cues to the hitters about his throws. Worried for having been betrayed like this, Moyer walked up to Jones and told him what
he believed he was sign stealing.
Jones however was flabbergasted on the accusation and dared to discuss the matter to its logical conclusion, in case Moyer wanted to. As great a player as he is, being blamed for something that has not been done hurts immensely.
"Any time a grown man gets his integrity questioned, they're going to take it seriously and I'm no different. If he wants to discuss it, we'll discuss it, but he's wrong, plain and simple," Jones said.
As soon as Moyer talked to him, Jones rose up to defend his contention. The fact Moyer never looked back to continue the conversation, Jones was not able to complete his explanation.
"It caught me by surprise," Jones said. "I was in shock. I didn't realize he was talking to me, and then I realized that he was, and I started screaming back at him. He never did turn back around."
This season is the last for Jones and only good memories is what he wants to take along on his departure.
Throughout his career, he has contributed immensely to baseball with his stick. Huge homers and reaching the bases has been a hallmark of him.
Never in his career, he said, has he resorted to petty means for getting hits, neither he has given signals to batters for this.
It may have been the case that Moyer was leaking hits and on being unable to find excuses, the handiest one had been picked.
Jones will do better to come out of this early and focus on his play ahead in the season.
