Chipper Jones is not happy with play-in game for determining post-season team - MLB Update
Chipper Jones is not in accord with the logic behind using the play-in game for determining the post-season team. He is of the view that a proper series is a better way because resting the fate of the team on just one game ignores various factors.
For example, sometimes players don’t feel good for one day and this can result into the defeat of their team. In consequence, there are ample chances that the club which does not deserve the place in the post-season qualifies.
Jones is extremely critical of the pennant playoff as he terms the new format stupid. He is playing his last season before retirement.
Wherever the Braves travel to for playing their series, Jones finds himself surrounded by the reporters.
Currently he is in Philadelphia where he has been inquired number of questions about the chances of the Braves and his retirement.
Along with the media spotlight, he is receiving precious gifts from his opponents as an acknowledgment of the services rendered by him to the baseball.
Jones aims to take the Braves to heights this year and end up his career in style. So far his contributions have been decisive. Fans will be looking forward to the continuation of his premier form in the playoffs by the time the Braves make it there.
Jones while criticising the format, expresses that if it was implemented last year the Braves will have an opportunity to proceed to final stages of the season.
“I think it’s stupid, to be honest with you,” he said. “But Major League Baseball wants a bunch of teams in the playoffs. There’s nothing like cut-throat baseball for the fans. And people love that 163rd regular-season game. They’ve loved it in the past.
I’m sure that’s probably what’s promoted a second wild-card team. I wish they would’ve done it a year earlier so we would have had a chance last year. But it is what it is.”
Currently Jones is focused on getting rid of the pain which he occasionally suffers and play the matches smoothly. Ideally he will like the Braves to win the Division title. It will be interesting to see whether he can make his last season a cherishing memory
for the years to come.
