Chipper Jones tickles his senses while casting a glance on a sensational career - MLB Update
Chipper Jones goes through his last season. So far he is doing enough to remember it along with a tremendous career he has, during the times of seclusion. He celebrated his 40th birthday, and just to add an ice on the cake, he struck a beautiful
homer in the game against Los Angeles Dodgers.
With every passing day, he is waiting the end of his career and thus getting a bit nostalgic in the meantime is not so surprising.
He reminisces his childhood in the streets, a desire to be in the field playing baseball forever and many other fascinating aspects of his young age.
Though he is exhaustively satisfied with his time in the Big League, a tinge of gloom was palpable on his face as he realises an imminence of his career ending.
"It's been cool," he said. "I consider myself to be really lucky to be 40 years old and still playing. It's in a lot more limited role. Thank God this is it."
He recalls ups and downs, the surgeries, hitting homers and winning National League Most Valuable Player Award in 1999. Everything he said falls down after the prime. Nothing remains forever and so does his time in the Major League.
The fact he has been with the Braves right from the beginning of his career, thrusting him any position in coaching of the offence or in any other area by the club can be a possibility.
When he was asked if he will prefer playing in an all-star game down the line even if he did not have those numbers, he plainly denied, saying he will rather like to fight for his spot in the team.
Instead of becoming a hurdle for a more deserving guy, he said he will prefer staying out. The pride of having exhausted everything the Baseball can offer was evident on his face.
"I don't want any pity All-Star appearances," he said. "I don't want to take a spot away from anybody else who's more deserving. I've had my All-Star appearances. … I'd much rather earn my spot on the club."
In his absence, an un-bridgeable void will open in the Braves. Who is going to fill this will be a sight to watch.
