Chips Are Down strong in the Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sale Stakes
Struggling with retaining consistency is the two-year-old bay colt, Chips Are Down. After a fourth position in the last outing, the colt has become part of the line-up of the Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sale Stakes. He will be accompanied by thirteen
other contenders over the seven furlongs on Monday, 24th September at Fairyhouse.
The Michael Mulvany trained shot off with the racing career just this season, and has been able to post success only twice out of the seven outings.
After failing in the first three attempts of the debut season, the bay colt was impressive in his first try at a handicap. On 21st July, 2012, he won the Parfit Mobility Vehicles Supporting Kare Nursery Handicap at Curragh over six furlongs.
The Irish colt made it to the wire in partnership with jockey, Conor Hoban. He never resorted to holding on or staying in the rear, rather raced in the second spot, and had to fight inside the final furlong in order to escape defeat by only a neck’s margin.
Settling the closest to the winner was, Desert Of Dreams.
The favourite entry, Einsteins Folly, ended third.
Finishing as the runner-up on 4th August, 2012 at Galway made his form a little doubtful, however, he did not make the connections wait for long to celebrate success.
Ad Valorem’s bay colt won as the evening’s favourite in the Ladies Day At Sligo 9th August Nursery Handicap on 8th August, 2012 at Sligo over 6 ½ furlongs.
Settling into the pace right at the beginning made him the centre of the attention early on in the race. He chased the leader and was able to collar him during the final two furlongs of the race. Chips Are Down strode on with determination, and ended up
landing the race by the margin of ¾ of a length.
Randall’s Alannah qualified as the runner-up of the race.
The 16 to 1 entry is in competition with some more experienced and accomplished entries today.
He will take down the field with jockey, Gary Carroll, and the duo will race out of the eleventh gate. The race will be a true test of his potential.
