No offense but is this a UK thing? So it's actually eating what we call French fries with curry?? This replaces ketchup or mayo then? Interesting........

  1. Yeah, its a UK thing!! It's curry sauce though, not the whole thing, so yes, would be like ketchup. Some people have gravy too which I dont understand!! I like my chips with slt and vinegar, nothing else!!

  2. UK is very innovative with Indian foods. It was UK, where Chicken Tikka Masala originated in late 1950s, and finally reached India about 30 years later.

Yes 'Chips & Curry' is UK thing. It makes sense.

  3. Oh yeah. Chips and curry sauce is the best!!! I think it's an English thing

Closely followed by chips and mushroom sauce :)  It's a South African thing :)

  4. Chips and curry sauce, yes.  Btw, curry sauce (in case you don't know what that is), is simply a thick-ish sauce made with cornflour/cornstarch that is flavoured with curry powder.

But I think some Brits might have chips with a regular curry too.  I've never seen it myself, but every Indian takeaway has chips on the menu under 'English dishes'.

Most people get curry sauce with chips when they get fish & chips (all fish & chip shops offer curry sauce), afaik.  I don't like it with my chips, but my husband loves it with his...although that's the only time he ever has curry sauce with chips is when we get fish & chips.

  5. Ooh yes it reminds me of Taj Mahal.
