Chisora and David Haye can be behind bars in Germany – Boxing news
Prosecutors have confirmed David Haye and Dereck Chisora can face imprisonment in Germany. Both the British boxers were involved in a public brawl after Dereck Chisora’s defeat to Vitali Klitschko in Munich due to which they can face jail sentences.
At the post fight conference, Chisora, who had lost to WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko, was furious over David Haye for poking his nose into the matter. Haye and Chisora soon got into a barehanded fistfight causing injuries to others as well. Both
were separated soon but a war of words was still on during which Chisora threatened to kill Haye. Based on these incidents, both the boxers can face imprisonment for up to 10 years for charges of physical harm.
Haye’s presence at the post-fight conference had irked Chisora. For many, this was David Haye’s comeback moment after he lost his WBA heavyweight title to Wladimir Klitschko in July 2011.
Haye, on Monday, released a statement through his promoters, saying, “I realise I am no angel - and don't mind a bit of professional trash-talk to help raise boxing's profile - but, during my 21 years in the sport, I have never been involved in, or even
witnessed, such a serious fracas. If requested, I shall happily assist the boxing authorities with any investigation they wish to launch and, ultimately, hope that all lessons learned from this incident will be implemented.”
It should be noted here that Haye was the first one to punch Chisora when the latter approached him.
However, Chisora was the one who made the brawl worse by causing injuries to Haye along with threatening him. According to the prosecutors, Chisora can face up to 5 years of imprisonment for physically harming Haye and one-year imprisonment or fine for threatening.
Chisora released a press statement yesterday apologising to Haye and Klitschko for his misbehaviour. Chisora had slapped Vitali Klitschko at Friday night’s pre-fight photography session. However, no updates on this apology and its effects on the German police
have been received yet, which means they are still planning to present both the boxers in the court.
