Chisora finally collects his Luxembourg license – Boxing News
British boxer Dereck Chisora finally collected his much awaited Luxembourg Boxing Federation license yesterday. Chisora needs the license in order to fight Haye on July 14, as his British license was cancelled months ago. As of now, both, Haye and Chisora
do not hold British boxing licenses and their fight is being sanctioned by the Luxembourg Boxing Federation.
Chisora collected his license at a press conference. When asked as to why he opted for a Luxembourg license, Chisora answered, “I had plenty of opportunities to be licensed by other countries, but I chose Luxembourg because they were very respectful towards
me, very accommodating and friendly people and I look forward to making them proud.”
On the other hand, the General Secretary of the Luxembourg Boxing Federation, Tony Tiberi said, “Dereck Chisora is a great champion and become a hero in Luxembourg when he visited a boxing gym today and made a lot of boxers day by helping with some coaching.
We are sure he will not let the people of Luxembourg down. He will now go into the ring know as the Red Lion of Luxembourg.”
Chisora got his license cancelled by the BBBC, British Board of Boxing Control, earlier this year after this bout with Vitali Klitschko. Chisora had slapped Vitali Klitschko at the pre-bout press conference, had spat water in the face of Wladimir Klitschko
after he lost to Vitali and was involved in a public brawl with David Haye. Chisora was summoned by the BBBC to explain his actions but he failed to prove himself right. Chisora’s license was revoked was an indefinite time period.
The Luxembourg Ministerial Department for Sports appreciated Chisora’s efforts of visiting Luxembourg and showing respect to the people. The department commented that they trust Chisora and they know he will put up a good fight against Haye.
It should be noted here that the BBBC has already issued a warning against anyone who participates in the event, including promoters, fighters and managers. Even the WBC has supported BBBC’s decision and has warned officials against participating in the
event. The fight takes place at West Ham United FC.
