Chivalry.......?????

Did the anglo-saxon's beleive in Chivalry or was it a simpler form of it.

  1. Wasn't chivalry a Franco-Norman concept brought across by Eleanor of Aquitaine in the 11/12th Century? Weren't the Anglo-Saxons subsumed by their conquerors by then?

    Having said that, did they not have a code of honour?

  2. If it was, Harold the Saxon would have just given up his throne due to the promise he made to William the Conqueror to give him the throne when Harold was shipwrecked off of Normandy.

  4. No - Chivalry is a Norman / French construct and develops across Europe after the Anglo-Saxons have been conquered.

    Especially under the patronage of Eleanor of Aquitaine
